General Membership Meeting – 21 June 2006
General Membership Meeting – Wednesday
evening, 21 June 2006 at 7:30 pm at the Abuja Horse Park
We invited all those who
might be interested, via Abuja Briefs, Abuja Expats, and View from the Rock to
come and to become members of the Nigerian Field Society at this meeting. For complete details about the society,
please click: www.nigerianfield.org. We met at the Horse
Park just outside Abuja, and, despite the rain, had a decent
turnout of over 20 persons. Very kindly,
the Park has volunteered to host our meetings indefinitely! Roland provided food and drinks, though in
the future such meetings will be pot-luck (each attendee brings a home-made
dish), with drinks purchasable from the Park.
Alan introduced and chaired the meeting, and Russell provided the
background, purpose, goals, and general workings of the Society. I added some comments about the NFSAbuja Yahoo! e-mail distribution Group, about our
web site (currently and temporarily liked via the Group, but in the near future
accessible directly via the main Society web site above), and about the
workings of the membership and fees.
There were only a few questions in the Q&A portion, and them we
chatted for awhile with each other.
Almost all attendees decided
to join the Society right there, with a few taking the applications with them
to be returned at a later date. We are
very pleased with the meeting, the number of new members (two trips, and
possibly a third came out of it, too – see the Calendar of
Events), and the fact that our members are interested in leading trips and
telling others about us.
Thank you for attending!
