Hike the Valley between Mpape and Aso Rock – Sunday,
26 August 2007
After the
breakdown in negotiations with the chief of the village near Ushafa to which
the cave belongs (Ushafa Cave Trip),
Roland saved the day by leading us on a great hike in the very tropical valley
between the town of
Even the slight
rain which started just as we were heading back did not dampen our
spirits. It was a beautiful hike, we met
many friendly people along the way, and got to know a very natural side of

Gear:
Be sure to bring
mosquito repellent and sunscreen as needed. Bring your picnic
lunch. Wear suitable footwear for traipsing about. Be prepared
for changing weather conditions.

Timing:
It takes about
10 minutes to drive toward Mpape where the road splits off to the right. Then, another 25 or so minutes down the very
rough dirt road to the end. The walk is
over an hour each way, though you can walk all the way down to the next town if
you have drivers take the vehicles and meet you there.

From the Hilton
hotel:
Shehu Shagari
north toward Maitama
At the British
Council roundabout turn right onto IBB
Continue on IBB
until you come to the very short road that links IBB to the ring road
Turn right
toward the ring road
Turn left onto
the ring road
Turn right
toward Mpape
Go almost to the
top of the hill and look for a dirt road turn off toward Aso Rock
Continue until
you cannot go any longer
Walk in the same
direction
