MAN, NATURE AND HIS ENVIRONMENT AN EXHIBITION OF DRAWINGS, PAINTINGS, PHOTOGRAPHS & POEMS In Commemoration of World Environment Day by Segun Ajiboye & Stephen Folaranmi JUNE, 2006In the year 2002, an unprecedented step was taken to commemorate the world Environment day in the historical city of Ile-Ife. An exhibition of paintings, pictures and poems by the duo of Segun Ajiboye and Stephen Folaranmi was organized and co-sponsored by the Institute of Cultural Studies of the Obafemi Awolowo University and the Ile-Ife branch of the Nigerian Field Society. The exhibition was held at the gallery of the Institute of Cultural Studies and it lasted from 6th-16th of June, 2002. The exhibition which brought together members of the Obafemi Awolowo University and the township populace was declared open by the former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Roger Makanjuola. This year’s commemoration of the World Environment Day tagged “Man Nature and His Environment II” is being presented by Nigerian Field Society, International Alliance for Youth and Community Development will feature drawings, paintings, poems, and photographs by Segun Ajiboye and Stephen Folaranmi focuses on the beauty and value of nature and the damages done to it. The opening of the exhibition shall be preceded with lectures on the effects of man on the habitat by seasoned intellectuals on environmental studies. The exhibition which will take place at the gallery of the Institute of Cultural Studies for one week will thereafter move to the National Conservation Foundation, Lekki, Lagos. The aim of the programme is to sensitise the Nigerian public and call their attention to the need to love our environment, appreciate the beauty in nature and to explore it in beneficial and sustainable manners. Your corporation and assistance towards this programme will be highly appreciated and recognized as one of the laudable efforts to ensure the sustainability of a good and habitable natural environment for the survival of man.
